My Open Studio / Gallery
I work mainly from my studio, which used to be my living room. I consider myself to be very fortunate to have such a large space with loads of natural light.
I have lived by the sea for most of my life, we are blessed here on the North East coast, there are literally miles of stunning beaches, cliffs and coves. Most of my current work is inspired by this and although many of my paintings are from imagination, it’s a well informed imagination as I walk on the beaches most days, rain, snow, wind and sunshine.
I welcome visitors to my studio, fellow artists, collectors, gallery owners and art lovers are all welcome. Make an appointment here and I’ll get the coffee pot on.
Self Taught Colour-Blind Artist.
I am a self taught artist (with the help of many excellent youtube tutorials).
I was told at school that I was colour-blind and I think they were right. Luckily the tubes of paint have the colour printed on them and I have come to find that absolutely correct and faithful colour in a painting is not the most important thing for me. Composition, subject, tonal value and the way the paint is applied……the overall feel of the painting ranks way above the “correct” colour, so I have not let this small handicap hold me back in any way.
I paint with oils in a quite loose and impressionistic style. I want to capture the wild sky’s and everchanging feel of the coast line.
